A Melbourne Water Work Permit is only required when a contractor needs to enter confined space on an existing Melbourne Water asset, such as a live pipeline or pit structure.
Although contractors must hold the Work Permit, we expect developers to be aware of this requirement and identify when a permit is required.
Applying for a permit
Work Permits will be issued at Pre-Construction site meetings to people who have successfully completed our Permit System course.
The course can be requested through our online portal.
