All FRC pipes used in projects shall be of equivalent class of Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) pipes.
-
Where a FRC pipe is used on our project, which is later intended to be transferred to Council, proof must be supplied that the FRC product is also acceptable to the relevant Council.
Concrete plain and reinforced 6.5.3
-
Pre-mixed concrete must be supplied in accordance with AS 1379-2007 and AS 3600-2009 from a plant operated by a quality endorsed supplier listed as a preferred supplier to us.
-
All concrete work must be in accordance with AS 3600-2009 and AS 3610-1995. The grade of concrete to be used must be as shown on the Drawings. Where no grade is shown, N25 Grade concrete must be used.
-
The contractor must arrange for all deliveries of concrete and give the Superintendent a minimum of 24 hours notice of the proposed supply arrangements each time concrete will be supplied.
-
The contractor must obtain two copies of the Concrete Forwarding Advice Form from the delivery driver and forward them to the Superintendent.
-
The contractor must:
-
obtain a delivery docket from the delivery driver
-
ensure the concrete ordered has been delivered
-
make the delivery docket available to the Superintendent upon request.
-
-
No water may be added after departure from the plant.
-
The use of admixture is subject to the approval of the superintendent.
-
Concrete must be fully placed for use within 90 minutes from commencement of mixing at the plant. The Superintendent may further reduce this time if the ambient air temperature makes this necessary.
-
The grade of concrete delivered must be as ordered.
-
The contractor must arrange for concrete testing by a NATA registered tester when directed by the Superintendent.
-
All concrete is to be tested in accordance with the requirements AS 1012 and AS 1379-2007.
Reinforcement 6.5.4
All reinforcing bars must be deformed steel, Grade D500N, in accordance with AS/NZS 4671-2001 unless otherwise shown on the Drawings. All reinforcing fabric must comply with AS/NZS 4671-2001. The reinforcement cover must be as shown on the Drawings. If no dimension is shown on the drawings, reinforcement must have 50 millimetres cover to the concrete surface.
Reinforcement fixing 6.5.5
Responsibility
The contractor is responsible for the fixing of the reinforcement in accordance with this specification and the associated contract documents.
Fixing
Reinforcement must be securely tied with 1.2 millimetre black annealed wire at all laps and intersections.
Codes
The reinforcement must be fixed and maintained in position in accordance with the requirements of AS 3600-2009, except where the requirements are modified by this Specification.
Bending
Where bending of reinforcement is required by the drawings it shall be undertaken in accordance with AS 3600-2009.
Splicing
When splices in reinforcement aren't shown on the drawings and are required by the contractor, the contractor must submit details of the proposed splices for approval to the Superintendent.
Welding
Reinforcement must not be welded except where shown on the drawings or requested by the contractor and approved by the superintendent. Welding should be in accordance with AS 1554.3-2008, Part 3, except where the requirements are modified by this Specification. Welding mustn't be carried out within 75 millimetres of a bend having an internal diameter less than 12 bar diameters, or at any point in a bar which has been re-bent. Tack welding of reinforcement must be approved by the superintendent and may be used to maintain the reinforcement in its correct position.
Cleaning of reinforcement
Reinforcement must be in a clean condition so the surface is free of loose mill scale, loose rust, mud, oil, grease and other non-metallic coatings which would reduce the bond between the concrete and the steel.
Where reinforcement has been partially encased and its uncased portion will be directly exposed to the weather, it must be coated with a cement wash or an approved equivalent.
The contractor must ensure any galvanised or zinc-rich coating of the reinforcement is protected from damage. Damaged reinforcements must be removed and replaced or the damaged coating must be repaired by the application of approved zinc or zinc-epoxy coating.
Supports for reinforcement
Chairs, spacers, stools, hangers and ties may be used as supports for reinforcement. Supports must be made of metal, concrete or plastics. Pieces of wood, aggregate, brick or the like mustn't be used. Unprotected ferrous metal mustn't be used in supports where they extend to the surfaces of the concrete or where they're used in conjunction with galvanised or zinc-coated reinforcement.
The supports must be able to withstand construction traffic and be sufficient in number and spacing to maintain the reinforcement in its correct position. Particular care must be given to the support of light gauge reinforcement and of reinforcements where the concrete will be cast against the ground. Care must be taken so no damage occurs to any waterproofing cover or vapour barrier and a metal or plastic plate must be placed under each chair.
Placing tolerances
The reinforcement must be fixed and maintained in position within the tolerances described in AS 3600-2009.
Construction joints 6.5.6
Construction joints must be in accordance with AS 3600-2009 and are only permitted:

Waterstops must be placed centrally and normal to the plane of the joint with the central bulb on the joint line. The number of splices in the waterstop must be the minimum practicable and they must be thermally welded unless otherwise approved by the superintendent. The contractor must support and protect the waterstops and replace or repair any waterstop damage before further construction.
Cast in pipes and fittings 6.5.8
