Yarra Main Trail erosion works

Current

In Melbourne the iconic Yarra River (Birrarung) is essential to our way of life and part of what makes living here so great.

We are working with the City of Yarra to repair rockwork along a section of the Yarra Main Trail near Dights Falls in Abbotsford affected by erosion. Our repair works will ensure continued, safe use of the trail for pedestrians, cyclists, and for people of all abilities.

Trail closure 3 February – mid March 2025

Works will commence 3 February 2025 and are expected to finish by mid-March, weather permitting.

A section of the trail and river will be closed Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, from 3 February to mid-March 2025 to ensure safety while our crews operate machinery and trucks on the path.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be redirected to a detour route along Trenerry Crescent while works are taking place.

The trail and river will be open to the public before and after the weekday work hours and on weekends.

Later this year, we will revegetate the riverbank with a variety of native plants. No trail closures will be required during revegetation.

We will make every effort to minimise the impact of these works on the local community and environment and we thank you for your patience while we complete these essential works.
