In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life. Today, clean and affordable water is readily available to our homes and businesses whenever we need it. Running from Beaconsfield to Langwarrin, the M418 water main is integral to the water supply for the Mornington Peninsula area. We’re conducting improvement works to ensure the water main continues to operate efficiently for the Cranbourne community, today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

What are we doing?

To protect and enhance the M418 water main, we are installing 14 air valves and one divide valve across the water main the Cranbourne. Works will require machinery to dig an area to expose the water main and install the new divide and air valves.

Location of works

Air valves and the divide valve will be installed in the following locations:

  • Earlston Circuit - rear of Cranbourne Training Track
  • Cranbourne Turf Club - inside and outside the Turf Club
  • New Holland Drive - adjacent to Chisholm TAFE
  • Royal Botanical Gardens Cranbourne
  • Settlers Run, Botanic Ridge - at the rear of Settlers Run, Golf Course.

What to expect

While the project team will make every effort to minimise disruption and inconvenience to you during these works, you can expect some minor disruptions including:

  • Site establishment at various locations, the sites will be secured with temporary fencing.
  • Mid-sized machinery will be used onsite for shrub removal and digging.
  • Traffic management in place to safely guide pedestrians and road users through the area if roads or paths are blocked.
  • Some noise and dust from works.
  • Increased heavy vehicle movements for the delivery of equipment and machinery.
  • Possible mild generator noise from sites (where applicable).

As part of these works, we’ll need to shut down the water main to replace the air valves.
From Monday 1 July to Friday 5 July 2024, you may notice some white water and reduced pressure in your property’s fresh water supply. There will be no disruption to your water supply or water quality, but if you notice any abnormalities, please contact South East Water on 13 16 94

Working hours

Works commenced in late April and will run through until mid-August 2024, weather dependant. Works will take place between 7 am and 6 pm Monday to Friday, 7 am and 1 pm Saturday (if applicable).

Please note core services of water and sewerage will not be impacted by these works. If you notice a change in your service, please contact South East Water on 13 16 94.
