Maribyrnong Flood Review update
An independent and highly respected expert in planning and environment has been appointed to lead the upcoming review into the Maribyrnong River flooding event.
Nick Wimbush brings more than 25 years of experience across environmental impact assessment, planning and environmental law, including presiding over more than 100 hearings, public inquiries and advisory committees such as the Coastal Climate Change Advisory Committee, North East Link Project Inquiry and the West Gate Tunnel Inquiry.
Nick will also be supported by independent experts as required throughout the review, which will look into the contributors to the October 14 flood including any impact the Flemington Racecourse flood wall may have had.
Anyone can take part in the review, and further details about the review will be released when public submissions open on 17 January 2023.
Terms of Reference for the review are currently being developed.
An extended window for public submissions will be open until 17 March 2023, to give those impacted by the flood as much time as possible to take part.
Melbourne Water will keep the community updated throughout the open and transparent review process, including via our website and with a series of community information sessions to be held in the New Year.
