These guidelines exist to ensure that our online community can engage in constructive and meaningful conversations about Melbourne Water’s role in managing and protecting all parts of the water cycle that are essential to our way of life. This includes providing clean drinking water, treating sewage, planning to manage flooding, and keeping Melbourne’s rivers, creeks and catchments healthy.
Please take a moment to read through the following guidelines before engaging on our social media channels. By posting a comment, you agree to abide by the following community guidelines.
Guidelines
1. Respectful and constructive conversation
We encourage open discussion and welcome your thoughts and experiences. However, we ask that all comments remain respectful, constructive, and mindful of differing opinions. Offensive, abusive, or harmful language will not be tolerated.
2. No hate speech or discrimination
Posts or comments that contain hate speech, discrimination, or harassment of any kind based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned from our pages.
3. Privacy and security
To protect the privacy and security of all individuals, please avoid posting personal information such as phone numbers, addresses, or any other sensitive details. Any comments that infringe on the privacy of others will be removed.
4. Misinformation
We do not tolerate the sharing of false or misleading information. Posts containing misinformation, especially regarding environmental issues, public safety, or our services, will be removed to maintain the integrity of our discussions.
5. No commercial promotion or solicitation
Melbourne Water's social media platforms are a space for community engagement, not for commercial promotion. Please refrain from posting unsolicited advertisements or promotions for products or services. Such content will be removed.
6. Moderation and reporting
Our social media platforms are monitored during business hours. We aim to review comments within 24 hours. If you encounter content that violates these guidelines, you can report the comment directly to Facebook, as well as report to us via direct message. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates our guidelines.
7. Consequences for violations
Users who violate these guidelines may receive a warning and have their comments hidden or removed. Users who continually violate our community guidelines may be banned from the page without warning. In cases of multiple violations on our channels, Melbourne Water reserves the right to switch off the comment function on any of our social media channels at any time.
