Update on controlled discharge from ETP
Due to unusually heavy rainfall, the Eastern Treatment Plant had been near capacity last week and our planned relief measures to keep the community safe involved the controlled discharge of treated wastewater into Taylors Drain on Friday.
Thankfully, due to the dry conditions over the weekend, we have now ceased this discharge however we may need to conduct further operations over the coming weeks if high rainfall persists.
Due to poor water quality, EPA is advising the community to avoid contact with the water at Wadsleys Drain, Eel Race Drain, the northern end of Kananook Creek and Carrum and Seaford Beach for the time being.
As part of our regular wastewater management, we are also currently discharging treated wastewater at Boag Rocks (Gunnamatta Beach). During this period, this area is not suitable for swimming, fishing or pets until the situation returns to normal.
We will continue to keep the community informed.

Update on regular wastewater management at Boag Rocks
As weather conditions have improved, the Eastern Treatment Plant has returned to normal operations. Our monitoring data indicates that water quality at Boag Rocks (Gunnamatta Beach) and surrounding areas is no longer being impacted. We are removing all our public safety signage from the area on Saturday morning (3rd December).
Improved conditions
Monitoring data has now indicated the discharge is no longer impacting the surrounding areas at Taylors Drain. However, due to recent flooding, impacts to the water quality continue. Please follow Environment Protection Authority website to understand the latest in water quality conditions.
