Melbourne Water launches new World of Water learning tool for geography students

Melbourne Water is helping Victorian students learn about the water cycle by releasing an interactive map for both self-guided and facilitated learning, along with a dedicated online platform for educators.

The World of Water Interactive Map empowers students to understand how water circulates in our city. It highlights the key stages of the natural and urban water cycle through an animated simulation of Melbourne, making it a practical and valuable resource for both classroom and home use.

From evaporation to precipitation, the World of Water Interactive Map connects abstract ideas about the water cycle to real places. It includes a daily tracker to view Melbourne's real-time water storage, rainfall, and water use data.

To further support educators, a new Teacher Toolbox is also available and includes expert-reviewed, curriculum-aligned resources, lesson plans, worksheets, and videos to bring water education to life in the classroom.

Students at primary and secondary levels will enjoy exploring the World of Water Interactive Map, which particularly aligns with the Years 7 and 8 curriculum.

Both releases will continue to receive content updates that reflect topical interests to meet the needs of teachers and students.

From site visits to our world-class treatment plants and wetlands to the Future Water Story school excursion, Melbourne Water proudly provides the community with education on water literacy to conserve our precious drinking water for future generations.
