Melbourne Water invites the Maribyrnong River catchment community to an Open Forum flood event

Melbourne Water invites the local community to our Open Forum event on 2 April 2025 to help shape the Maribyrnong River catchment flood mitigation study.

Community members attending can share insights and experience of flood will inform the study's investigation of mitigation options that prioritise community safety and have the biggest impact on reducing flood risk.

The Open Forum will provide the community with the opportunity to share thoughts and feedback. Attendees can ask questions during our Q&A session, post feedback on our 'Feedback Wall', share engagement preferences with us, and have one-on-one conversations with Melbourne Water staff and consultants from the Maribyrnong River catchment flood mitigation study project team.

The Maribyrnong River catchment flood mitigation study will investigate potential options to help reduce flood risk now and into the future. The study will aim to identify both structural and non-structural flood management options for the Lower Maribyrnong River catchment.

The study will prioritise the safety and resilience of the local community and the Lower Maribyrnong River ecosystem.

“We know that the Maribyrnong River flood in October 2022 was a traumatic experience for this community,” said Melbourne Water Executive General Manager, Service Asset and Lifecycle, Craig Dixon.

“We also know that there are lasting impacts of the flood, financially, socially, emotionally and physically.

“Melbourne Water is actively listening to your feedback.”

For those who can’t attend the event in-person, a recording of the event will be made available on the Melbourne Water Maribyrnong River Flood Mitigation Study Let’s Talk website.
