Haunted Gully Creek Revegetation and Weed Control Works

In Melbourne, our rivers and creeks are essential to our way of life. That’s why at Melbourne Water we’re removing weeds and planting native plants along a 3 km stretch of Haunted Gully Creek. Once established, the vegetation will protect the banks of the creek and provide habitat so our native wildlife can thrive.
What we’re doing
We’re removing weeds along the creek and these will be replaced with 3,000 indigenous plants. We will plant 2 endangered species including Dandenong Range Cinnamon Wattle and Green Scent Bark.
Why are we doing this?
The project is a wildlife corridor linking this stretch of Haunted Gully Creek with Beaconsfield Nature Conservation Reserve and Upper Gum Scrub Creek. These areas are home to our native wildlife including Powerful Owls and Rufous Fantail birds. The weed control and revegetation efforts will enhance the reserve's biodiversity and provide habitat for these iconic native species.
Timing of works
Weed control works will be ongoing periodically from August, 2024 through to June, 2028. Work hours will be between 7 am and 4 pm, Monday-Friday.
Following the initial weed control efforts, Melbourne Water will continue to tend to the creek ensuring that weeds are controlled while the vegetation becomes established over the following three years.
Location
The works will be conducted along a 3km stretch of Haunted Gully Creek, from Beaconsfield Reservoir through to Brown Rd, Officer.
